Is there any competitor to Photoshop?

Is there any competitor to Photoshop? Adobe have done so well with Photoshop that although there are many other great image editing programs out there, people have been blinded to only see Photoshop. Not only that, but people have become to accustomed to using Photoshop that they are afraid to use other packages and going through the education of learning the different styles and techniques of the packages.
If you are a proficiant user of Photoshop, why stop there? Try other packages and you might be quite surprised and might move onto the other packages permanently! Try it before you deny it.
